Cassini was the first and only spacecraft to orbit Saturn and has gained much media attention for its beautiful photos of Saturn’s rings and its discoveries, especially with regard to the possible potential for life on Saturn’s moon Enceladus. After nearly twenty years in space and countless discoveries made, on the 15th September 2017 the Cassini Spacecraft was sent the command to plunge into Saturn’s atmosphere — destroying it completely, forever. The tomb is an anamorphic style piece which can be simultaneously read as both a model and a drawing. When viewed from afar, the piece looks like debris, scattered or in the process of exploding – this represents Cassini’s big crash! When viewed from the front, the pieces assemble to form the silhouette of Cassini. The distinctive silhouette also assembles as a shadow on a screen behind the tomb.
